About Cherry Leaf Ju Jitsu Club

Cherry Leaf was originally set up in the 1950s, formerly a very popular Judo club. We have been based at Hill Stores, The former Gower St, and then on to Cannon St where the club was developed into a Ju- Jitsu Club.

Since 1992 we have been based at Fitton Hill, in the former secondary school, now demolished.  We are now in St Martins primary school.  The club has been run since 2004 by Sensei’s Paul Barnett and Gary Dalloway, both of whom are N.V.Q. qualified coaches.

The club has a good friendly, family atmosphere and still maintains high standards and continues to build upon them.

About the Sensei’s

Sensei Paul Barnett – I started my martial arts at Cherry Leaf Judo as a young boy, when Cherry leaf was based at Gower St School, I trained under Sensei’s Charlie Williams and Paul Smith. When the club moved to Cannon St, I went along and trained under Sensei’s Jack Nadin and Peter Mcandrew. After a break I re-joined the club in 1992 at our current location and gained my 1st Dan in 1995.

In 2004 I had a great honour bestowed upon me when with my training partner Gary we became the co-owners of the Cherry Leaf Ju-Jitsu Club, after Sensei Jack Nadin retired. I am deeply commited to Cherry Leaf as my family, friends and employer, will vouch for, and I intend to maintain the high standards, that Cherry Leaf has held for many years. As part of that high standard, I am now an NVQ qualified coach, CRB registered, First Aid Certified, and continue to improve where possible.
